Each parent group has a specific mission and objective that allows parents or guardians to support Garneau School staff and students most effectively.

Get involved!

As the parent or guardian of a Garneau student, you are welcome to attend the meetings of any or all of these organizations. You may find that some parents are actively involved in multiple committees. But as our dedicated volunteers begin to age out of their roles, we are actively looking to recruit new members who bring with them fresh ideas and creative solutions while focusing on the success of Garneau students and staff.

Garneau School Council (GSC)
GSC consists of parents, teachers, staff, school administration and community members working together with the leadership of the school to effectively support and enhance student learning. Garneau School Council is open to all parents and guardians who have children attending either the Garneau Community program or the Sciences Alternative program. GSC helps to organize school-wide events, in addition to events such as the monthly Bike Bus, community safety initiatives and Grade 6 Graduation.

The 2025/26 chair of the GSC is Jessica Holt.

Friends of Garneau School (FOGS)
FOGS is a registered charitable organization and works collaboratively with the school council and the school to identify priorities and raise funds to support all students of Garneau School. With the money FOGS raises, students get to experience field trips without additional costs. This can be a $200/year savings for parents. Staff are also allocated a budget each year to purchase supplies for their classrooms. The money raised by FOGS supports many school-wide events such as the Harvest Ball and the Metro Theatre movie.

The 2025/26 President of FOGS is Christian Fog.

IDEAS Lab Parents Society (ILPS)
ILPS consists of parents/guardians of children enrolled in the Sciences Alternative program. They work collaboratively with the school principal and teachers to support the delivery of the project-based learning pedagogy. ILPS provides advice and input to the principal on matters related specifically to the Sciences Alternative program. They also work closely with the GSC and FOGS to support school-wide events and to better the connection between the Garneau Community Program and the Science Alternative program.

The 2025/26 Chair of ILPS is Anna Lilley.
